Director & Founder of MaaSLab

Lecturer in Geospatial Machine Learning

Dr Yuerong Zhang is a Lecturer in Geospatial Machine Learning at the UCL Energy Institute. Her distinctive academic profile lies at the intersection of GeoAI, transport-energy systems, infrastructure resilience, and demand-side flexibility. Since 2016, her research has developed spatially explicit machine learning and network modelling approaches to examine the resilience, accessibility, utilisation, and flexibility of low-carbon transport and energy infrastructure, with a particular focus on public EV charging systems. Before joining UCL as a Lecturer, she held a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship. She has secured competitive research funding, including EPSRC and Leverhulme support, contributed to interdisciplinary research projects, published peer-reviewed journal papers, and advised the Department for Transport.

Research themes

  • Modelling the resilience and flexibility of public transport, EV charging, and energy networks.
  • Spatio-temporal analysis of EV charger accessibility, utilisation, charging behaviour, and demand-side flexibility.
  • Geospatial machine learning, network science, and text mining for transport-energy systems.
