Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 August 2026
Intelligent Transport-Energy Systems Lab (“iTES Lab”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how personal data may be handled through the iTES Lab website.
1. Data controller
iTES Lab is the data controller for your personal data.
If you have any questions or requests regarding the Privacy Policy or the way we handle your data, please contact us at [email protected].
2. Legal framework
Personal data must be handled in accordance with applicable UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, together with relevant UCL policies and records-management requirements.
3. When information may be collected
Information may be processed when:
- you email iTES Lab;
- you complete an online form to access our research data;
- you use the London EV Charging Accessibility tool; or
- you follow the website's LinkedIn or publication links.
4. Information that may be processed
Depending on your interaction, this may include:
- your name, email address, organisation, message, and attachments sent by email;
- an IP address, browser or device information, requested URL, date and time; and
- security, performance, availability, and error-log information.
The current accessibility tool does not ask for your name or contact details. Area and map-mode selections are used to display the requested result in the browser.
5. Why information may be used
Information may be used to:
- respond to email enquiries;
- deliver, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the website;
- prevent misuse and investigate technical incidents; and
- improve the website and its accessibility.
We will not use your personal data for any unrelated purpose without informing you and obtaining your consent where required.
6. External services and links
The accessibility map requests CARTO tiles that display OpenStreetMap data. Standard request information, including an IP address, may therefore be visible to CARTO. When you follow the LinkedIn link or a publication link, the destination site's own privacy policy applies.
7. Data sharing and disclosure
iTES Lab does not sell personal data. Information may be processed by the website hosting, email, security, and map-service providers needed to operate the site. Information may also be disclosed where required by law.
8. Security and retention
Appropriate technical and organisational measures are used to protect personal data from unauthorised access, misuse, loss, or alteration. Personal data is kept only as long as necessary for its purpose and in accordance with relevant UCL retention requirements.
9. Cookies
The current website does not intentionally set analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies. If that changes, this policy will be updated and any required consent controls will be introduced.
10. Your rights
Under data protection law, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to be informed – to know how your data is collected and used;
- Right of access – to request a copy of your personal data;
- Right to rectification – to correct or complete any inaccurate data;
- Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) – to request deletion of your data;
- Right to restriction of processing – to limit how your data is used;
- Right to data portability – to obtain your data in a structured, commonly used format and transfer it elsewhere;
- Right to object – to object to data processing where we rely on legitimate interests;
- Right to withdraw consent – if processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding to your request to protect your privacy.
If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://www.ico.org.uk.
11. Changes to this policy
The policy may be updated when the website, its tools, providers, or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date will be revised when changes are made.
12. Contact us
